“The Canary in the Coal Mine”

My focus for the past several years has been
helping children to recover from autism. Over
time, I have found that the pieces of the puzzle
of autism are relevant to a large number of
other health conditions in society today. I
believe that ADD/ADHD, chronic fatigue,
fibromyalgia, Alzheimer’s disease, type 2
diabetes, Parkinson’s, MS among others are
related to autism in terms of the underlying
risk factors for these conditions.

What we see for autism is actually a more
serious example of what we are experiencing
as a society; that underlying genetics combined
with infectious diseases and environmental toxins creates a situation that predisposes us to a range of non ideal health conditions.  Predisposing genetics, combined with infectious microbes and environmental toxins help to create a situation where a critical cycle in the body (the methylation cycle) is not functioning properly and has a direct impact on neurotransmitter levels (dopamine and serotonin). I believe this is why some adults with these conditions are finding that a “diluted” form of the autism program is helping them. Unfortunately, this has created a situation where the children have become the canaries in the coal mine. This is one of the reasons that I feel so strongly about all of us working together and “paying it forward” to help to recover every child.

While it is a shame that we did not recognize these issues before it created such a large scale epidemic for the next generation of our children, the silver lining is that the program that is already helping to recover autistic children is applicable to these other health conditions. My goal is to share very specific biomedical information, as well as the emotional support that is needed for the long road to recovery for any of these chronic health conditions.
