Vitamin D- This can be taken in winter or in cloudy regions to supplement the vitamin D in the General Vitamin. Adequate levels of vitamin D are important to immune health.  A correlation has been found between areas of the country with reduced sun exposure, healthy levels of vitamin D and the incidence of MS.

Dandelion Leaf- This herb taken several times daily is very helpful to support the kidneys and bladder. It works nicely in combination with taurine and SAMe with a B complex for kidney health.

Dandelion Root- While dandelion leaf is lovely for the kidneys, dandelion root helps to support the liver. The liver is one of the most important organs in the body. It is responsible for detoxification in the body, and the liver synthesizes glutathione, which is critical for detoxification and immune support. Supporting the liver is therefore of utmost importance. Dandelion root works well with Milk Thistle for liver support.

DHEA- For years this supplement was touted as the fountain of youth, helping to offset aging. It is true that as we age, our DHEA levels decline along with estrogen or testosterone. It has also been reported to be helpful in a variety of autoimmune conditions. DHEA can be of use when an individual has low levels of DHEA. However it is not wise to supplement with DHEA unless you have confirmed the fact that your levels are low and in need of supplementation. Taking a supplement that can increase hormone levels is a double-edged sword. If you need it then it may be extremely helpful to supplement. If you do not need it, you may run the risk of increasing hormone levels to a point where you could cause abnormal growth in your body.

Digestive Enzymes- There are two types of digestive enzymes that work especially well when used together, Super Digestive Enzymes and Ultra Dairy. This pair of enzymes help with bloating, the digestion of fats, support the pancreas, help with minor blood sugar issues, and may help with acid neutralization. It is a good idea to take one of each with every meal.

DMG (dimethyl glycine)- This is one of the supplements that is frequently used to stimulate language in autistic children. DMG may work better when it is introduced later in an autistic program, rather than early on. This may be because the glycine can stimulate the glutamate activity when glutamate is still in excess. As the glutamate is more under control, then the DMG will work well in conjunction with GABA. DMG is also a very good methyl donor. Methylation is important for autism, allergies, leaky gut and cancer. DMG can also be helpful for neurological pain associated with shingles.

Dong Quai- This herb is useful to offset symptoms of menopause. It works well in conjunction with vitex and black cohosh. If that combination is not successful then the product listed as Natural Estrogen will often help to remedy more severe symptoms. As with black cohosh, this supplement may be useful in stimulating language in autistic children. It is best used in conjunction with indole 3 carbinol.

Dopa 400- This natural source of dopa is derived from Mucuna pruriens, or the Velvet Bean. This supplement is helpful for individuals who want to supplement their natural dopamine levels. Imbalances in dopamine levels are known to be a problem in Parkinson’s disease. Dopamine imbalances have also been implicated in autism, addictive behaviors and in ADD.
