Taurine- This is an amino acid that is not considered as an essential amino acid in the body. However, individuals who do not eat a lot of red meat are deficient in taurine. Taurine may be useful to the liver by increasing bile output. This helps in the digestion and assimilation of fats and fat-soluble vitamins. Taurine is very useful in controlling imbalances in glutamate and GABA. It may be that taurine is helpful in curtailing the rapid outpouring of glutamate that is associated with seizures and epilepsy. This is a situation that is encountered in neurological inflammation (autism, ALS, Parkinson’s, MS, Alzheimer’s) as well as epilepsy. Taurine is reported to be useful in helping individuals with kidney disease, helping to stabilize blood pressure, and those with low blood sugar issues.
